Press statement:

FIOE: WE STRONGLY CONDEMN THE TERRORIST ATTACK ON COPTIC CATHEDRAL IN CAIRO.

TARGETING SANCTUARIES IS A VIOLATION OF ALL RELIGIOUS AND HUMAN VALUES

We, as the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE), were deeply saddened to hear of the terror attack perpetrated on Sunday (11 December 2016), against the Coptic Cathedral in Cairo, Egypt, where 23 were killed, around 50 injured, and mostly women and children among the churchgoers were intimidated. Confirming its principled position that terrorism has no religion, FIOE denounces this horrendous attack in the strongest terms possible. Indeed, suchatrocities which violate the human lives, attempt to undermine security and terrorize communities, must be condemns.

In the same context, FIOE calls upon all components of the Egyptian society to stand united against any ventures seeking to divide them and spread communal hatred among fellow citizens, in a society that never allowed sectarianism or any kind of discrimination throughout its prolonged history. FIOE also stresses the importance of concertedsincere efforts seeking social stability and cohesion to face suchdespicable attacks against the entire society.

FIOE reaffirms solidarity with the Egyptian people, and especially with the Coptic Church, in this time of sorrow, conveys deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the innocent victims, sharesthoughts with them in their devastating loss, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
